PHP Serbia Conference: 3 most powerful lectures

Recently our colleagues attended PHP Serbia Conference where they had an opportunity to listen to some of the most amazing speakers in the world of PHP. One of our colleague attendees, Marko Dragnić said: “PHP Conference is one more brilliantly organized conference with more than 30 speakers who gave amazing performance and shared some valuable insights we will definitely make use of in our future professional development”. We had a chat with the colleagues who attended the Conference to find out their views. Here are 3 most powerful lectures in the words of our colleagues.
“Anonymous Classes behind the mask” - Mark Baker
Although The PHP Serbia Conference offered a variety of thought-provoking lectures, there is one I would like to single out - “Anonymous Classes behind the mask” by Mark Baker.
Marko Dragnić: “Although The Conference offered a variety of thought-provoking lectures, there is one I would like to single out - “Anonymous Classes behind the mask” by Mark Baker. Mark Baker is a Lead/Senior Developer in Paybreak. He approached the issue of instancing anonymous classes and memory usage in a very interesting way and he also offered a fantastic solution of instantiation of classes through eval (). Taking into account that the anonymous classes are something new in the field of PHP7, this lecture was highly useful especially because it shed light on the very topic of anonymous classes.
“Where will you be when the storm comes?” - Dr. Florian Krause
Another thing that drew my attention was Florian’s talk about a search engine called Sphinxsearch which we can use to make the lines of code (which otherwise can get very big) smaller. Overall, it was a really inspiring lecture!
Nikola Djokić: “I was most impressed by the lecture given by Dr. Florian Krause “Where will you be when the storm comes?”. The topic was engaging and the speaker clearly presented the topic giving short examples. Florian talked about what can be done when we reach the moment when our website has heavy traffic when on a daily basis we have thousands of visits.
Although I have heard about Varnish, I didn't know much about it. I only knew that it is a particular kind of software used for caching. During the lecture, I found out that Varnish has its own language which we can use to configure the behavior of the mentioned software. Another thing that drew my attention was Florian’s talk about a search engine called Sphinxsearch which we can use to make the lines of code (which otherwise can get very big) smaller. Overall, it was a really inspiring lecture!
“Getting started with PHP core development” - Arnout Boks
One of the most powerful lectures I have listened to in a while is unquestionably the lecture “Getting started with PHP core development” presented by Arnout Boks.
Stevan Kapičić: “One of the most powerful lectures I have listened to in a while is unquestionably the lecture “Getting started with PHP core development” presented by Arnout Boks. Arnout gave a thorough explanation of how we can literally dismantle PHP and get the access to the PHP files which actually represent generally accepted PHP. PHP is open-source which means that anyone can use it. Arnout explained how we can access those files, how to change them and who to consult if we want those changes to be implemented in the general PHP. He also talked about how we can fix the current functionalities of PHP if we notice they aren't working properly. Finally, he gave an example of how he fixed the bug in PHP and showed us how we can do that ourselves. He shared his own recent experiences of beginning to contribute to PHP itself and pointed out how important it is that we do that ourselves because nobody is paid to maintain PHP.
This lecture was an amazing experience not only because I was fascinated to see what PHP really is underneath its mask, but also because it reminded me of how important it is to give back to this programming language as much as we can.
This is just one out of many conferences that we have visited this year like Tarabica, Happiness at Work, Craft Conference and other and we hope there will be many more conferences of this kind as it is a great chance to exchange experiences and learn something new.
